Magnet Status Achieved for TCH

The Christ Hospital Receives Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence

Cincinnati—The Christ Hospital has been awarded Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes healthcare organizations that demonstrate highest-quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. Only 6.3 percent of healthcare organizations in the United States have achieved ANCC Magnet Recognition status. Presently, there are 363 Magnet designated hospitals in the world.

The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the ANCC to recognize healthcare organizations that provide the very best patient care and hold the professional practice of nursing and overall patient care to its highest standard. The program also provides a vehicle for disseminating successful practices and strategies among healthcare organizations.

The Magnet Recognition Program provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of care they can expect to receive. When U.S. News & World Report publishes its annual showcase of “America’s Best Hospitals,” being an ANCC Magnet organization contributes to the total score for quality of inpatient care.

“We are extremely proud of all of our nurses, physicians and the entire staff for helping us achieve such a prestigious designation,” said Deborah Hayes, R.N., M.S., N.E.A.-B.C., chief hospital officer, The Christ Hospital. “This national designation is a testament to The Christ Hospital’s commitment to providing the finest care for our patients and their families while promoting a positive, professional and engaged work environment.”

Hospitals applying for Magnet Recognition undergo a rigorous evaluation process, which includes extensive interviews and reviews of nursing, support services, and the clinical outcomes the organization has achieved. The application process requires successful submission of written evidence and a site visit conducted by a team of professional Magnet appraisers. During the site visit, the appraisers verify that the written evidence is well developed,

disseminated and ingrained in the culture throughout all levels of the organization.

Magnet hospitals must provide a status report on their continued journey to excellence every two years and must undergo complete reevaluation every four years to retain the designation.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center is the world's largest and most prestigious nurse credentialing organization, and a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association (ANA).

The Christ Hospital is a 555-bed, not-for-profit acute care facility, offering services in cardiovascular care, spine treatment, women’s health, major surgery, cancer, behavioral medicine, orthopedics, emergency care, kidney transplant and others.
